Could this be the one redemptive element of another assuredly ridiculous installment of “Shia And His Wacky Parents Deal With Confusing CGI’d Action Sequences”? I might not go that far, but it’s a step in the right direction:

Big D and the Kids Table’s (New Album Release 7 July 2009) sixth full-length album and it’d be pretty absurd to expect them to stick to one sound, which is certainly something they haven’t been shy to do, during their 14-years of being a band. Their 2007 effort, Strictly Rude, gartered a somewhat mixed reaction, as we were introduced to a more mellow, dub-heavy sound, and Fluent In Stroll sees the ska heavyweights experiment even more so.

Opening with the rather unorthodox Doped Up Dollies On A One Way Ticket To Blood, I fully expect the eyebrows to be raised and faces to be twisted of those old school fans, longing for the return of Big D’s faster, more punkier and heavier-hitting sound of How It Goes and Good Luck, but forget about it, you’re not going to get it. Once you’re past the ‘WTF?’ aspect, the track grows on you significantly after several plays – which can be said regarding most of the tracks on the album, especially to long-time fans.

While the vibe of Fluent In Stroll mostly resembles that of Strictly Rude, it most certainly brings an assortment of its own flavours.

There is a more chilled-out atmosphere with laid-back riffs and a heavy dose of funky bass throughout; the brass is not-so much of a focal point and is fairly watered-down compared to previous releases, which stand out track Describing The Sky perfectly emulates. Vocalist, David McWane, best describes Fluent In Stroll’s style of music as ‘Stroll’, explaining that “It’s a mix of Hop-Scotch, Double-Dutch, Soul, Ska and Reggae.”

The jazzy horns create a soulful and Motown-esque feel to Known To Be Blue and I, I, I, which displays just one of the many new and exciting sounds that Big D brings to the (kids) table with this album. A Latin American influence is even exhibited during the chorus of Where Did All The Women Go? as they dabble in a smidgen of salsa.

Background female vocals are a new and refreshingly frequent feature throughout the album, which playfully contrast well with the lead vocals of McWane, as demonstrated in Stop, Look & Listen (Shake Life Up) and Not Fucking Around. McWane still speaks/sings in the same vein as Strictly Rude, with the usual Big D-themed lyrics circulating around girls and partying.

Sure, their sound has completely changed and there is not an ounce of punk on here, but no matter what sound Big D produce, it is undeniable that they are a consistently good band, admirably unafraid to push boundaries within their genre, and while this may not be their best (Strictly Rude holds that title), this creation has still resulted in one of the most sublime and feel-good summertime albums of 2009.

July's new music releases has something for just about everyone. Jack White's latest band, The Dead Weather, releases its debut album. The band also features members of Queens of the Stone Age and The Kills. R&B singer Maxwell releases 'BLACKsummersnight,' the first in a planned trilogy of releases. American Idol alums Jordin Sparks and Daughtry both unleash their sophomore efforts. This month's alternative music releases include Our Lady Peace, All Time Low, Sick Puppies. Disney fans also have a lot to look forward to, as new albums are coming out from Hannah Montana, Demi Lovato and Ashley Tisdale.

A-Ha New Release-Foot Of the Mountain

Download MP3 >> A-Ha, Norway’s multi-million selling purveyors of instant pop gems, return on 6 July 2009 with the brand new single “Foot Of the Mountain” released on Universal Music Record label (UMRL).Bursting to life with soaring synths, a memorable chorus and Morten Harket’s instantly recognisable vocals, “Foot Of the Mountain” is an A-Ha classic that sees a return to their early recording methods and synth sensibilities, reminiscent of tracks that made them the 36 million selling band they are today.

Written by Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen, “Foot Of the Mountain” has all the elements that define the A-ha sound, melodic melancholia, yearning lyrics and synth hooks, and is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming album of the same name. A track about fundamental conflicts in modern life, it examines the pull between nature and big-city civilisation.

As Paul explains, “It’s the dilemma of loving a city life, yet secretly wondering if we’d be happier being surrounded by open fields and sweeping mountains.”

A band unlike any other, Morten, Magna and Paul of A-Ha have remained a constant force in music since the release of their debut album ‘Hunting High And Low’ in 1985.

With singles such as “Take On Me”, “The Sun Always Shines On TV”, “I’ve Been Losing You” and “Train Of Thought”, A-Ha are a musical influential force that has picked up fans over the years that include U2, Keane, Coldplay and even moved Robbie Willaims to proclaim them “f***ing amazing.” In 2008, their body of work earned them the Q Magazine Inspiration Award.

“Foot Of The Mountain” has already received Radio 2 play, after they picked up the single in Norway ahead of release.

A-Ha will tour the UK in October.

Drake - Flies Twice Into Top 10 Of Billboard Hot 100

Drake flies twice into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, with "Best I Ever Had" the week's greatest airplay gainer and "Every Girl," his collaboration with Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine and Jae Millz, the week's biggest digital gainer.

Drake's "Best I Ever Had" and "Every Girl" (by the combo known as Young Money) jumped 27-3 and 34-10 respectively, after unauthorized versions of the songs showed up earlier this month on the Hot Digital Songs chart. This week, legit versions racked up 153,000 and 90,000 downloads each.

The Black Eyed Peas continue their Hot 100 reign at No. 1 and No. 2 with "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling." Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo's "Knock You Down" drops 3-4, Pitbull's "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" falls 4-5, Lady GaGa's "Lovegame" falls 5-6, and Sean Kingston's "Fire Burning" cools 6-7.

Also in the top 10 are Jeremih's "Birthday Sex," which falls 6-8, and Shinedown's "Second Chance," steady at No. 9.

Following her June 16 CMT Awards ceremony-opening airing of the video of "Thug Story," a parody of her hit "Love Story" featuring T-Pain, Taylor Swift's gag got picked up by 26 mainstream top 40 radio stations. The original is at No. 29 on the Hot 100 this week.

New Boyz' "You're a Jerk" is the week's hot shot debut at No. 32, moving 53,000 downloads and gaining 12% in airplay audience. Other new entries include Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service" at No. 63 and All Time Low's "Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't) at No. 67, in advance of the latter's Vans Warped Tour run.

Rounding out the Hot 100 is David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland's "When Love Takes Over," which tops the Official U.K. Singles Chart this week and also reigns over Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart for the fifth week. On the Alternative radio chart, Franz Ferdinand's "No You Girls" ascends 11-9 in its 16th week on the tally. The quartet last visited the top 10 with "Do You Want To" in 2005.

After eleven weeks at No. 1 with "Boom Boom Pow," the Black Eyed Peas are right behind themselves at No. 2 with the debut of "I Gotta Feeling" on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

With their No. 1 and No. 2 songs this week, the Peas are the first duo or group since OutKast to occupy the top two spots on the Hot 100. OutKast accomplished that feat with "Hey Ya!" and "The Way You Move" at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the issue dated Feb. 4, 2004.

"I Gotta Feeling" moved 249,000 downloads in its first week, taking the lead on the Hot Digital Songs chart.

Meanwhile on the Hot 100, Keri Hilson's "Knock You Down," featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo held steady at No. 3, Pitbull's "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" dropped 2-4, Lady GaGa's "LoveGame" climbed 6-5 and Jeremih's "Birthday Sex" fell 4-6. Rounding out the top 10 this week are Lady GaGa's "Poker Face," which fell 5-7, Sean Kingston's "Fire Burning," rising 9-8, Shinedown's "Second Chance," which dropped 7-9, and Beyonce's "Halo," which went from 8-10.

Drake's "Best I Ever Had" scored the week's greatest airplay gain, climbing 36-27 on the chart. The week's greatest digital gainer was Jordin Sparks' "Battlefield," which jumped 65-46 following the video's MTV premiere.
Among the new tracks on the Hot 100 this week are Kid Cudi's "Make Her Say," featuring Kanye West and Common, at No. 51; Jason Aldean's "Big Green Tractor" at No. 85; and Matt & Kim's "Daylight," at No. 95. The song was featured in a Bacardi ad and saw its downloads jump 22% this week to 22,000.

Elsewhere, on the Hot Dance Club chart, Pet Shop Boys net their 25th top 10 single as "Love Etc." climbs 13-9 in its fifth chart week. And Dangerbird Records' Silversun Pickups become the first independently-distributed act in more than a decade to reach the top of the Alternative radio airplay chart as "Panic Switch" climbs 3-1.
